Johnson Matthey Unveils New PSH Series Hydrogen Bulk Purifiers to Meet Higher Volume Gas Requirements of Silicon and Compound Semiconductor Fabs

West Chester, PA, July 30, 2007
Johnson Matthey, a global leader in the design, manufacture and distribution of highly reliable bulk and point-of-use purifiers, has introduced its new PureGuardTM PSH Series Hydrogen Purifiers specifically designed to meet the increasing demand for higher hydrogen flow rates needed to support the larger production capacity of the newest LED and silicon fabs in Taiwan and China. JM's PSH Series purifiers allow these fabs to use Johnson Matthey's more compact purifiers for higher flows, even where the inlet gas quality is from a lower quality, compressed source with purity as low as 99.9%.

Incorporating Johnson Matthey's patented palladium membrane technology, the six PSH Series models offer a cost-effective, single-system solution for hydrogen flow rates from 10 Nm3/hr to 60 Nm3/hr. The new PSH Series purifiers also incorporate Johnson Matthey's patented V-purge technology to ensure quick start-up and rapid removal of hydrogen during power failure and other alarm conditions.

"This new series of hydrogen purifiers reaffirms our commitment to support the ongoing growth of the global semiconductor industry. There is a great need for the best available technology to support this growth and Johnson Matthey continues to be the leading supplier of gas purification products," said Stuart Bestrom, National Sales Manager of Johnson Matthey's Gas Purification Technology group.

The PSH Series units purify gases to <1 ppb (O2, H2O, CO, CO2, N2 and THC). A catalytic pre-purifier protects against oxygen impurity spikes.

PSH Series Hydrogen Purifiers feature a compact single-cabinet design for installation in Class I, Division II environments. They are PLC-controlled with a color touch screen HMI interface and provide continuous monitoring of purged electrical bays to ensure safety compliance.

Johnson Matthey's new PureGuard PSH Series Hydrogen Purifiers also offer several option choices including an automatic or manual hydrogen by-pass line, automatic bleed flow control, RS 485 Network communications and battery-backed controls (UPS).
